The expression "week of years" occurs in the Mishna (Sanh.v1) (2) The use of a heptad (a measurement of seven years) was well known to the Children of Israel and is referenced in other Jewish literature outside of the Bible. Verse 27: The 70th Week, consisting of two periods of 3 1/2 years each, in which the Antichrist desecrates the Holy Place in Jerusalem (1)Ī similar measurement of time is found in Leviticus 25:8 in dealing with the year of Jubilee. Verse 26: Time interval between the 69th and 70th Weeks, during which the Messiah is "cut off" (c.AD 30) and Jerusalem and the Temple are destroyed (AD 70). Verse 25: 69 Weeks (483 years), consisting of two periods of seven weeks plus 62 weeks, respectively (that is, 49 years followed by 434 years), representing the span from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem to the coming of the Messiah. Hence, seven weeks equals 49 years, and 70 weeks is 490 years. In this remarkable prophecy, Daniel uses a literary device in which one "week" (that is, a heptad, or one set of seven) represents a period of seven years. 3 1/2 years or 1260 Days (Middle of last week)
